Experts Warn Students Against Silence Over Challenges

Experts have warned Nigerian students against silence at a time of challenges in their life.

The Head of Department of Theatre Arts at the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Dr. Adeniyi Adekunle Oluwadamilare, at a sensitization programme, tagged: "Ajose Campus Acoustic Session", on the institution’s campus, warned students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria not to remain silent when faced with life challenges that could jeopardize their future.

The programme, organised by the Gender Development Initiative, in collaboration with the Theatre Arts Department of the College, was aimed at encouraging students to speak out on issues affecting their well-being, especially, those related to peer pressure and reproductive health.

Dr. Adeniyi said many students fall into social vices due to the influence of the internet, technology and negative peer pressure, often because they suffer in silence without seeking guidance.

Also, a consultant to the Gender Development Initiative, Damilola Femi Sodiya, said the Ajose session was designed to empower young people to speak out whenever they experience abuse or injustice.

He noted that the initiative helps students understand their sexual and reproductive health rights and encourages them to make informed decisions.

Participants at the event also shared their views through drama, dance and acoustic performances, highlighting the importance of open communication and mutual support among students.
