How NSCDC Saved 106 Students From Fake University Operating In 3-Bedroom Apartment In Lagos
Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Badagry Area Command, on receiving intelligence, and on surveillance for days, thereafter, discovered a fake university providing "education" to students in a three-bedroom apartment in Ilado, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Lagos State. NSCDC said the fake school operates like Ponzi scheme.
The officials led 160 students out of the premises, and arrested the proprietor.
The proprietor, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Badagry Area Command, beguile students with admission into a foreign university.
According to the Badagry Area Commander of the NSCDC, Chief Superintendent Gbenga Ekunola, "preliminary findings showed that Nigerian 'students' paid admission and processing fees between N200,000 and N1.5 million, while foreign nationals paid between $400 and $500 on promise of admission into a foreign university."
Also, "the arrangement operates like a Ponzi or chain-marketing scheme, with participants promised increasing financial rewards based on the number of new recruits they brought into the programme."
The "students" were taken away by the security operatives for further profiling and reintegration with families.
