The Association of Northern Nigerian Students have issued 2 weeks ultimatum to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government to release former Governor Nasir EL-Rufai of Kaduna State.

President of the students association, Comrade Sani Adamu, argued that freedom is the bedrock of democracy and no one should be deprived of liberty or persecuted for expressing his opinion. He, therefore, demanded the release of EL Rufai within two weeks.

The Northern students chanted solidarity exclamation while giving the federal govt two weeks ultimatum to release detained former governor of Kaduna state.
They said the country need more voices in view of the insecurity challenges, unemployment and poor governance faced in the north and Nigeria at large. The students cautioned that silencing dissent does not solve the problem but rather worsens it.

Condemning acts of intimidation, the northern students called for immediate release of El. RUFAI, and urged the Federal government to respect rights to freedom of speech and association and stop the harassment, intimidation of political actors, activists and students who engages in peaceful criticism.

The Northern Student threatened that if after the 14 days ultimatum, their demands are not met, they will be compelled to embark on a nationwide peaceful protests or declare a vote of no confidence on President Tinubu.
Other members of the students association - Abubakar Hassan and Asmau Ibrahim - appeal to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his stance and release detained mallam Nasir EL Rufai.
