Lecturers at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-iwoye in Ogun state have protested the non-payment of their salaries by the state government saying they have commenced a sit at home strike until the government attend to their demands.

The lecturers, who started the protest from the mini campus of the University, Abusi-Edumare took the protest to the permanent site of the institution, displaying placards with various inscriptions.

Lecturers of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, under the umbrella of the Academic staff Union of University  have commenced sit at home strike following what they called irregular payment of their salaries by the state government.

The Lecturers who took to the streets to protest the irregular payment of their salaries by the Ogun State Government in the past three years, carried placards with various inscriptions to condemned the situation up to the permanent site of the University to sensitize their members and students about the reason for their actions.

The members of the  Academic Staff ‎ Union of University who were led by the Southwest Zone Chairman of the Union, Dr. Nasir Adesola and the Chapter Chairman of the Union, Dr. Deji Agboola, ordered the lecturers to stay away indefinitely from the classrooms with immediate effect, following the lacklustre attitude of the government to their plight.

Addressing the protesting lecturers, the Chairman of the Olabisi Onabanjo Univeristy, Ago-Iwoye  branch, Dr. Deji Agboola and the Southwest Zone Co- ordinator of the Union, Dr. Nasir Adesola said that the state government had in the past three years formed the habit of not paying them their salaries regularly, stressing that,  this anomaly in the payment of their monthly salaries had led to a situation where it had become impossible for many of the lecturers to meet their financial obligations such as payment of
their children school fees and rents.

They accused the management of the institution of turning deaf ears to their pleas conveyed through several letters since September 2011 regarding the matter and therefore, appealed to Governor Amosun, who is visitor to University to come to their aid.

They later presented their letter of grievances to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Saburi Adesanya for onward transfer to Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

‎Receiving the protest letter from the lecturers, the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Saburi Adesanya pleaded with them not to boycott the classrooms as they have threatened but, assured the lecturers that he would deliver their protest letter to Governor Amosun.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the management of the institution had already started work on the measures aimed at correcting the anomalies in the payment of salaries.
