Makoko Residents oppose Govt Relocation Plan To Epe After Demolition

Makoko residents are opposing plan by the Lagos State Government to relocate them to Epe, after the demolition of their homes in December 2025.

The Lagos State House of Assembly had recommended the relocation of the residents whose property were demolished by the Lagos State Government. The Legislature cited the need to improve safety and living conditions in the area, in validating the demolition.

The residents are opposing the decision of the state government to relocate them to Agbowa in Epe area, arguing it was not part of their earlier agreement, which was boundary demarcation and not relocation.
They insisted they had agreed to boundary demarcation, not relocation.

Government plans to build low-cost housing in Agbowa, Epe, allowing residents to continue their fishing trade. However, the residents are complaining about the distance from their livelihoods and lack of infrastructure in Epe.

The demolition and forced eviction displaced thousands of residents, including vulnerable groups.
