Makinde, Akeredolu Visit Scene of Shasha Crisis, Call for Calm

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and his counterpart from Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu on Sunday visited the scene of the crisis between the Yoruba and Hausa traders in Shasha area of Ibadan.

They called for calm and urged the aggrieved parties to sheath their sword for peace to reign.

It was a moment of agony, pain and lamentation as Yoruba indigenes at Shasha market under Akinyele area of Oyo state gathered to received Governor Seyi Makinde and his counterpart from Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu to the scene of the crisis between Yoruba and Hausa traders.

Virtually all the shops in the market and houses belonging to the residents were razed during the crisis.

The crowd that received the Governor and his entourage insisted that all they want is for justice to prevail.

The delegation later inspected some of the facilities destroyed in the area during the crisis.

There was a mild drama in the course of the tour as the Yoruba youths prevented Governor Seyi Makinde and his team from visiting the abode of Seriki nshasha.

In their separate remarks, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Governor Seyi Makinde narrate their encounter with the aggrieved youths at the scene.

They appealed to both parties to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign in the area.

Makinde promised that security will be beefed up in the area while he assured that the government will continue to dialogue with the aggrieved parties.
