LAGOS GOVT URGED TO STOP INDISCRIMINATE DUMPING OF REFUSE

Residents of Lagos State has appealed to the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode to find a lasting solution to dirts cropping up in major areas within the State. This is the view of LAgos residents who spoke with Galaxy news. Adeola Aderibigbe has more in this report.

Sanitation is the hygienic means of promoting health through the prevention of human contact with the hazards of wastes as well as the treatment and proper disposal of wastewater.

Hazards can be either physical, microbiological, biological or chemical agents of disease. Wastes that can cause health problems include human and animal excreta, solid wastes, domestic wastewater (sewage or greywater) industrial wastes and agricultural wastes.

Few eyebrows were raised when the Lagos State Government under Governor Akinwumi Ambode cancelled the monthly sanaitation in the State citing economic reason.

While speaking with Galaxy news, residents urged the State Government to find means of compelling Lagos residents to clean their environment.

Hygienic means of prevention can be by using engineering solutions, sewage treatment, surface runoff management, solid waste management, excreta management, simple technologies, or even simply by behavior changes in personal hygiene practices, such as hand washing with soap.

They urged the State Government to protect and promote human health by providing a clean environment and breaking the cycle of disease.
