Justice Rights INITIATIVE Advocacy Group Cautions Security Operatives Against Extra-Judical Killings
An advocacy group, Justice Rights Initiative, JRI, has cautioned security operatives against extra-judicial killings in the country.
The Acting Executive Director, Justice Rights Initiative, JRI, Solomon Torluam, admonished against the use of force in the arrest of citizens, stating that this action oftentimes leads to extra judicial killing of suspects.
Barr Torluam, who condemned extra judicial killings and other violent acts against Nigerian citizens, expressed worries over recent misconduct of some men in uniform, particularly, the Police,
Justice Rights Initiative, a civil rights organization based in Benue State, championing the implementation of Administration of Criminal Justice Law in Benue, called on the police to be more discreet in their engagement with citizens.
He stated that the attitude of intimidation and harassment, by some personnel, while carrying out their duties, is uncalled for. He urged the security operatives to be more civil.
The human rights advocate also encourage the use of cameras to record incidence when accosted by police, stating that the Inspector of General of Police has also given his nod to it.
Still on the implementation of Administration of Criminal Justice Law, which is yet to take off in Benue State seven years after the law was enacted, he said they would continue engagement with appropriate authorities for its full implementation.
