Lagos Task Force Clamps Down On Street Urchins In Lagos
The Lagos State Task Force on Environment has commenced total clampdown on street urchins, popularly known as “Omotaku,” area boys, including other criminal elements, towards enforcing zero tolerance for crime in the state.
The Taskforce, on Thursday, arrested several Omotaku boys at Marwa Bus Stop in Lekki.
At the point of arrest, a truck driver with a broke-down vehicle was confronted by suspected Omotaku boys, who attempted to extort him. They threatened to remove his vehicle battery, side mirrors, and jack, while demanding his phone and money to settle them.
Taskforce operatives, who were on routine monitoring patrol and acting on intelligence, responded swiftly and apprehended all the suspects in connection with the crime.
The Lekki corridor had earlier been flagged by concerned motorists and residents because of recurring cases of theft, extortion, and harassment by these street urchins.
This led the Agency to raid the area to curb these criminal activities.
All suspects are expected to be charged to court in line with the Lagos State Special Offences Law.
