PLATEAU: INEC BOSS SEEKS MILITARY PROTECTION
In view of the precarious security situation in the country and the forth coming general elections, the Plateau state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Godwin Kwanga is seeking military protection for his office, men and materials before , during and after the February general elections.
He made this known when he paid a courtesy visit to the Plateau state commandant of The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp. Kwanga who had already paid similar visit to the police commissioner and STF commander in state said the need for adequate security for INEC staff and materials cannot be over emphasized. Correspondent King Richard was there and filled in this report.
Godwin Kwanga that was recently sent from the FCT to head the Plateau INEC office said the recent finding and pronouncement by Professor Jega that included Plateau state as one of the flash points for electoral violence has increasingly made the need for security unavoidable.
Kwanga added that in view of the ad-hoc staff that would be used on the field to conduct the election , and the sensitive materials that will be in INEC’s possession the men of the NSCDC would be of immense assistance in helping to secure lives and property before , during and after the elections.
On his own part the Plateau state NSCDC boss assured the electoral officer that his men are battle ready for any one that would want to foment trouble on the day of election. Vincent Bature stated that the Plateau state NSCDC , the soldiers and other security agencies are working hand in hand to ensure a peaceful and successful election in the state.
