INEC URGE ON SENSITIZATION
As the issue remain among credible voters and the in ability by some to get their Permanent Voter’s Card, King Richard in this special report takes a look at how long its takes to collect the Permanent Voters Card, what happens to those who are no longer in possession of their Temporary Voters card and what INEC should do in the case of those who will not be able to retrieve their PVCs before the stipulated period.
The decision of The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to decentralize the
on-going distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to Ward levels, in order to enhance access by persons yet to collect their cards has speed up the ease at which people now obtain their PVCs.
Before now, the distribution was done at the local government offices of the Commission since the end of distribution at the polling unit level. But distribution of the PVCs has since been moved to Ward level nationwide.
But for those who have misplaced their Temporary Voter’s Card which was issued at the point of registration, have no need to fear as the commission has put in place attestation forms to be filled as soon as the persons PVC has been identified . Speaking with news men at Barki Ladi area Local Government Area of Plateau state, an INEC Staff Mr Jugu said it is a seamless exercise for those who misplace their cards because all they have to do is to fill a form and have a thumb print then they can claim their PVC .
On January 8, 2015, when the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Augusta C. Ogakwu announced that resident electoral commissioners are to ensure that INEC staff work every day from 8 am to 4 pm every day, it was to ensure that all receive their PVC. But few days to the election much of the PVCs are yet to be collected. Voters have proffer solution to the electoral umpire on what to do next if people don’t obtain their PVC s before the election date.
