Police Arrest Syndicate Vandalising Railway Infrastructure
The Police have arrested a two-man syndicate for vandalising railway infrastructure. The Police recovered a truck load of stolen railway materials worth over N400 million.
While parading the suspects in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad made 18 arrests relating to seven major cases in the first quarter of 2026, including recovery of arms, stolen vehicles, and disruption of criminal networks across Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Taraba and the FCT.
He said operatives arrested Chisom Goodnews and Ahmed Adamu in Nasarawa State with a trailer loaded with about 60 tonnes of railway tracks and slippers concealed under sacks of groundnut shells. He noted that the materials were being moved from Bauchi to Ilorin before interception.
Placid also disclosed that six kidnapping suspects were arrested in Kaduna State, including Yusuf Shuaibu and others linked to a syndicate led by Kachalla Gwanna in Rijana Forest. He said the group was responsible for the abduction of CSP Silas Kundi and his son in 2025, during which a ₦24 million ransom was collected before rescue operations by the police.
He added that three armed robbery suspects were arrested, with 10 stolen vehicles recovered; four banditry suspects were arrested with AK-47 rifles, two kidnapping suspects were arrested in Nasarawa, one suspect was arrested over Plateau-linked attacks in Abuja, while investigations continue into all cases.
The FPRO said the operations demonstrate the effectiveness of the Special Tactical Squad in dismantling criminal networks, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects and recover more exhibits.
