Sowore Remanded At Force CID, Court Rules on Bail Jan 8

A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has fixed Friday 8th January 2021 for ruling on the bail application filed by Omoyele Sowore and 4 others standing trial for alleged criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and public disturbance.

Chief Magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello fixed the date Tuesday after listening to the application for bail moved by counsel to the Defendants, Marshal Abubakar, and the opposition by Prosecutor, James Idachaba.

The Court also ordered the Defendants to be remanded at the Force CID facility in Area 10, Abuja following complaints by Mr Sowore that they were denied food and medical attention at the Kuje Correctional Centre where they were remanded on Monday night.

He had complained of ill health as a result of lack of access to food, water and bedding.

At the close of the hearing, supporters of Sowore refused to allow him to be transported from the court in the vehicle of the Correctional Center, insisting only a police vehicle will be allowed to on grounds of jurisdiction.

It will be recalled that Sowore and his co-defendants were arrested in Gudu area of Abuja on New Year eve during a protest against bad governance.
