Military Intensify Onslaught Against Terrorists, Arrest 1,359 Suspects

The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in the first quarter of the year, intensified onslaught against terrorists and other criminals in several parts of the country. The military succeeded in arresting over 1,359 suspects in containing criminal networks nationwide.

The Director of the Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, at a briefing in Abuja, disclosed that troops arrested 1,359 suspects, rescued 813 civilians, and secured the surrender of 197 insurgents within the period.

He added that troops also recovered 485 arms and 15,899 rounds of ammunition, dismantled 101 illegal refining sites, and seized over 547,920 litres of petroleum products.

He added that a total of 122,848 insurgents surrendered, during the period under review.

According to him, "the successes cut across all operational theatres, with key terrorists elements neutralised, victims rescued, and criminal networks disrupted."

Major General Onoja reaffirmed the military’s resolve to sustain the offensive, while commending personnel and honouring fallen troops.
