Farmers Protest Invasion of Farmlands by Fulani Herdsmen
Farmers from Ijaye farm settlement under Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State on Tuesday protested the invasion of the settlement by Fulani herdsmen.
The farmers with placards of various inscriptions stormed the Agodi Governor's office to register their displeasure about the development and seek the timely intervention of the state government.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that some of the farmers who spoke with Journalists disclosed that the herdsmen having been displaced from the Oke-Ogun Area of Oyo State moved to the area with dangerous weapons.
They added that the herdsmen have been molesting and attacking farmers and other residents in the farm settlement.
They maintained that they could no longer go to their farmland following fear of being attack by the herdsmen who have become a threat to their survival in the farm settlement.
The farmers called on the state government to come to their aid on time and avoid a repeat of what happened in Igangan and other parts of Oke-Ogun.
Addressing the protesters, the Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, Sunday Odukoya urged the farmers to remain calm adding that their protest letter will be delivered to the State Governor, Seyi Makinde for appropriate actions.
Not satisfied with this, the farmers insisted that they want the Governor to address them.
