EFCC makes case for the return of African stolen assets

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared that African stolen assets in the Western world is worth over $50billion calling on all stakeholders to support any initiative aimed at returning the assets.


The Ibadan Zonal Head, Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, Friday Ebelo made the disclosure at a rally held in the state capital to mark the 3rd African Anti-Corruption Day celebration themed, “Towards a Common African Position on Asset Recovering”, which was marked with a walk across Nigeria

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that Ebolo noted that it is immoral if the West could be preaching transparency in the running of the African continent and the West does not abide with the same concept of transparency and accountability.

The EFCC boss pointed out that Africa does not stand to gain anything from jailing fraudsters that steal the continent’s assets alone without recovering what they have stolen for the good of the people of the continent.
