Tinubu’s Nominee For NMDPRA CEO Promises To Strengthen Energy Security

The nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as chief executive officer, CEO, of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, has promised to eliminate bottlenecks in the petroleum supply chain and strengthen Nigeria’s energy security.

Umar gave the assurance during his screening before the Senate committee on petroleum (midstream and downstream), where he outlined his vision for improving efficiency and ensuring steady product availability across the country.

He noted that global shocks, such as disruptions linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, and the Iran war, often impact fuel pricing, but stressed that domestic preparedness remains critical.

Members of the Senate committee expressed support for the nominee, commending his professional background and indicating readiness to back reforms aimed at improving performance in the midstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry.

The Chairman of the Committee stated that the exercise was in line with the new Petroleum industrial law, adding that the provisions of the law provide for the screening of the nominees adding that the Senate was satisfied with all facts presented by the Nominee.

Also, Umar said his preoccupation will be to provide enabling platform for Nigerians to have stable downstream and mainstream energy resources to ensure that there is energy security and that pricing is done fairly as well as transparently.
