Uba Sani, Falana, Shehu Sani, Utomi Pay Tributes At Gani Fawehinmi's 88th Posthumous Birthday
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Femi Falana SAN, Shehu Sani Pat Utomi and many others paid tributes at the 88th Posthumous birthday of Chief Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory.
Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku, Gani's daughter, organizing the commemoration of the 88th posthumous birthday of her father, assembled activists in civil society, media and the legal profession at the Gani Fawehinmi Gallery and Library in Lagos to present and launch a book titled "Gani Fawehinmi and the Nigerian Press".
Governor Uba Sani, Kaduna State, eulogized Gani's curiousity for indiscriminatory education of the Nigerian masses. The governor remarked that Gani made personal commitment by establishing the Gani Fawehinmi Northern Students Scholarship initiative, to raise the bar of opportunities for education.
Former Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State visualized what the struggle for good governance would have been if Gani was alive. Mimiko argued it is not enough to have the will to remove petrol subsidy, but ensuring transparency in the management of the process for the benefit of all is more significant.
Mimiko challenged the sub-national government to account for the funds disbursed to them from the increased revenue after subsidy removal by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in relation to service delivery.

Late Abdul-Ganiyu "Gani" Oyesola Fawehinmi, 22 April 1938 – 5 September 2009, was a renowned human rights lawyer and activist; an indefatigable defender of the poor, the oppressed and voiceless. He was in the vanguard of the struggle to terminate military dictatorship, tame corruption in Nigeria.
