Police Arrest Father, Son Over Unlawful Possession Of 4 Firearms In Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested two suspects identified as 68-year-old Tibi Friday, and his son, Tibi Oyabrade, 36-year-old, for illegal possession of four firearms.

The suspects were intercepted by operatives attached to the Anti-Vice unit, while conducting a search operation along the Igbogene-Tombia Expressway in Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Command, DSP Musa Mohammed, in a statement, indicated that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were travelling to Abua in Rivers State, when a search was conducted on the tricycle conveying them to the park, leading to the discovery of four single-barrel guns concealed inside a sack and covered with a wood in an attempt to conceal the arms.

The suspects are from the Bayelsa community of Futoro Gbene in Ekeremor Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. The police said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yenagoa for discreet investigation, to ascertain the source of the firearms and identify any other persons connected with the offence.

The Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, CP Daniel Iyamah, reiterated the commitment of the Command to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms and other violent crimes across the state. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with credible and timely information that will aid the ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and security.
