FCT Police Command Arrests 4 Officers For Extorting ICPC Chairman

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command arrested four police officers over the alleged extortion of the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed this while parading suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal suspects at the command headquarters in Abuja.

He said the officers were operating outside their duty posts when they allegedly formed a criminal gang, mounted an illegal checkpoint and extorted N53,000 from the ICPC Chairman before they were identified and arrested. Sanusi warned that any officer found guilty of corruption would face dismissal and other disciplinary measures.

Sanusi also announced the arrest of Umaru Danda for allegedly supplying drugs and logistics to kidnappers operating in Mpape, as well as the rescue of a kidnap victim in Karshi without the payment of ransom. He said firearms, illicit drugs and other exhibits were recovered during the operations.

The Command also arrested 4 suspects for allegedly robbing Bolt and Uber drivers of their vehicles, while three suspected one-chance robbers were apprehended along the Life Camp-Gwarimpa Underpass with weapons and other incriminating items.

The commissioner further disclosed that police foiled an armed robbery attack in Nyanya, arrested three suspects, recovered several exhibits and also recovered five stolen vehicles from different parts of the country. He urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information to tackle crime across the Federal Capital Territory.
