Oriire 39: Troops Encircle Kidnappers Camp, Block Escape Routes

Troops on search and rescue operations on the 39 abducted schoolchildren and seven teachers from Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota and Alawusa communities in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, have intensified operations, encircling the hostage location of the kidnappers in the forest.

Troops were also said to have blocked all escape routes from the National Park, the location the kidnapped victims were perceived to be held hostage since May 15, 2026, bandits kidnapped 46 persons in Oriire LGA.

The troops and other security operatives on search and rescue operations have surrounded a hideout within the National Park forest area, where the abducted pupils and teachers are believed to be held.

Security sources were cited to have disclosed that troops have caged the bandits in the forest, "blocked possible escape routes and restricted their movement with the hostages" in the forest.

The bandits, under pressure of being captured, were said to have reduced the ransom they demanded earlier, beside other conditions for the release of the victims.

Earlier four demands include: release of detained terrorist commanders, payment of ransom, provision of two Hilux vehicles, and the implementation of Sharia-related laws.

The military are conducting the search and rescue operations in ways to ensure the safe freedom of the kidnapped victims.
