Senator Okey Ezea, who represents Enugu North Senatorial District, in the National Assembly has passed away

The Labour Party lawmaker, popularly known as Ideke, was said to have died on Tuesday while receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

A source close to his family, disclosed that he had earlier undergone treatment in Germany before his condition worsened.

Born on 11 August 1963 to the family of Late Chief James Ezea of Itchi, Igbo-Eze South, and Mrs Theresa Ezea of Nsukka Urban, Ezea had a long career in politics and public service.

He co-founded the All Progressives Congress in Enugu in 2013 and became the party’s gubernatorial candidate in 2015.

In 2018, he was appointed chairman of the governing board of the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, a position he held until 2022, when he resigned to join the Labour Party. He won the party’s senatorial ticket that year and was elected senator for Enugu North on 25 February 2023.
