Oyo NLC Debunks Collecting 100 Bags Of Rice From Adelabu
*Says Is Not Enough To Alleviate Suffering Of Over 200,000 Households of both public and private members of NLC in the state
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Oyo State chapter has clarified that the CONGRESS has not collected 100 bags of rice from the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu as palliative from the federal government.
The state Chairman of the CONGRESS Comrade Kayode Martins, made the clarification in his reaction to the news making the round about the rice being distributed by the Minister.
It was reported that some organizations including Nigeria Labour Congress are beneficiaries of 10,000 bags of rice allocated to Oyo State as food palliative from the federal government.
He appreciated the gesture by the federal government through the Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, however, said that the number of rice is too small to alleviate the suffering of over 200,000 households of both public and private members of NLC in the state.
Martins explained that Nigeria Labour Congress in Oyo State is a collection of about 49 affiliated unions, while some unions have nothing less than 20,000 members.
The NLC Chairman maintained he would rather continue to champion the cause and rights of its members than dabbles into what will lead to rancour within the Congress.
He appealed to the media to at every material time confirm the truth about any report before going to the press, saying that the publication of such is capable of polarizing the Congress.
Comrade Kayode Martins advised the federal government to look into the issue of hike in the price of electricity and other policies that are contributing to economic hardship of the common Nigerians with the aim of providing solutions to them and make life worth living
