Oodua Parliament Rejects Calls for the Sack of Defence Minister

The Oodua Youth Parliament (OYP) has expressed strong opposition to recent calls by a group reportedly operating under the banner of an Arewa platform seeking the removal of the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa.

In a statement issued by the Speaker of the Parliament, Hon. Aare Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi, the youth body described the call as misleading and counterproductive, particularly at a time when the Federal Government is pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

OYP stated that as a pan-regional youth platform with cordial relationships across various ethnic and civil society groups nationwide, it is not aware of any recognized major Arewa organization formally backing such a demand.

The Parliament therefore called on relevant security and intelligence agencies to conduct a thorough and professional investigation into the individuals or groups behind the campaign, to determine their motives and ensure that no actions are being taken that could undermine national security efforts.

According to the Parliament, attempts to distract from ongoing reforms under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and General Musa risk weakening collective national efforts to address insecurity.

It urged authorities to ensure that any investigation is conducted strictly in accordance with the rule of law as National security discourse must remain responsible and constructive.

The youth parliament reaffirmed its collaboration with various ethnic and youth organizations across Nigeria, stressing that unity and cooperation remain essential in confronting security challenges.

The Parliament reiterated its readiness to support the Federal Government and the Ministry of Defence in advancing security reforms and creating opportunities for youth participation in nation-building.
