One injured as fuel laden truck falls in Ibadan
One person has been injured as a tanker filled with premium motor spirit, otherwise known as petrol fell at Akobo area of Ibadan along the Ojo end of Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Saturday.
The incident led to panic tension and heavy traffic bottleneck on the busy expressway as the tanker spilled its content on the highway while the driver of the vehicle sustained serious injury.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that some of the eyewitnesses claimed that the driver was coming from the Lagos end of the highway when he lost control of the vehicle immediately after Akobo bridge but in an attempt to manoeuvre, the truck vehicle fell and blocked the road.
Some of the shop owners in the area hurriedly closed down as premium motor spirit spread around but the timely arrival of officers of the Oyo state fire service restores normalcy to the area.
The principal fire superintendent, Oyo state fire service, Ojeyinka Isiaka says some residents of the area informed the fire service about the incident but appealed to all drivers to always be mindful of their speed.
As at the time of this report, the Ibadan end of the highway has been blocked from Akobo area while officers of the Oyo state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps and Fire Service have diverted traffic from the scene of the accident cordoned off the scene.
The driver of the ill-fated truck is now receiving treatment at the hospital while the content is being moved into another vehicle.
