The marine unit of the Ogun state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps has intercepted a syndicate which specializes in illegal smuggling of petroleum motor spirit to neighbouring Benin republic using the Akere waterfront in Ipokia local government area of the state.

Parading several kegs of the suspected petroleum products intercepted which source is still being investigated, the state commandant of the civil defence corps, Hameed Abodunrin said the suspects citing his men jumped into the waters and escaped while their speed boat was impounded.

While warning against economic sabotage by the unscrupulous individuals and groups operating along the creeks of the state, the commandant promised a tough time ahead just as he challenged villagers and residents of the areas to be more vigilant.
