Nigerian Army Raises Cyber Security Consciousness

The Nigerian Army has set out to raise cyber security consciousness in the country. The Army, accordingly, engaged in a four-day Social Media Awareness Campaign to boost cyber security consciousness and promote responsible online engagement among its personnel.

The event, organized by the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, aimed to equip personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital space.

The General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, represented by Col. Ikechukwu Akabike, emphasized the importance of understanding the opportunities and risks associated with social media, as it influences public perception, security dynamics, and operational effectiveness. He stressed that military personnel must be aware of the impact of social media on security operations and national defence.

The campaign will cover key topics, including digital footprint management, cyber security best practices, and the role of social media in national defence. Participants are encouraged to engage with experts and enhance their knowledge and professional competence.

The Nigerian Army considered the campaign as part of its ongoing efforts to integrate modern cyber strategies into its operations and enhance national security. Maj.-Gen. Wase commended the Cyber Warfare Command for promoting responsible social media usage and strengthening cyber awareness within the force.

The campaign is expected to contribute to building a more informed, vigilant, and digitally resilient force, with personnel equipped to handle the complexities of the digital space and promote national security.
