Lawmaker Condemns Assassination Attempt On Peter Obi

A member of the House of Representatives, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency of Anambra State, has condemned the reported assassination attempt on Peter Obi in Benin City, Edo State. He describe the gun attack as a direct attack on Nigeria’s democracy and constitutional order.

Uzokwe, in a media interaction at the National Assembly, cautioned that violence against political actors threatens citizens’ rights to freely choose their leaders. He warned against the militarisation of the political space.

The federal lawmaker called on the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to ensure the safety and security of all political stakeholders in the state, stressing that leadership requires accountability, especially during crises.

The lawmaker also called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to address security concerns by fishing out those responsible for the attack, while demanding immediate transparent and independent investigation to prevent further political violence and protect the country’s democratic process.
