Kogi Gains International Economic Status, Receives Free Trade Zone Certificate
Kogi State has gained international economic status with the official presentation of the Ajaokuta Free Trade Zone certificate.
The new economic status has potential to stimulate direct foreign investments to drive industrial development.
Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, Olufemi Ogunyemi, presented the certificate to Governor Usman Ododo, describing it as the start of a transformative economic journey.
Governor Ododo hailed the development as a defining moment for the state, applauding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the 4,000-hectare Free Trade Zone in Ajaokuta.
He said the approval underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to economic reform and inclusive growth.
The governor maintained that the Ajaokuta Economic City will serve as a magnet for investors, unlock Kogi’s vast mineral potential, and generate jobs for thousands.
He emphasized the state’s strategic central location as a competitive edge and assured that structures are already in place to fast-track operations.
Ogunyemi reaffirmed NEPZA’s statutory role as a one-stop regulatory authority, pledging continuous support to ensure the zone’s smooth take-off and long-term success.
