Kidnapped Delta Council Chairman Regains Freedom

The chairman of Sapele local government area of Delta state Chief Bright Abeke has regained his freedom after spending ten days in the custody of suspected gunmen.

 

 

The Delta council chairman was abducted on April 10th 2026 in an evening raid at his hotel along Owumi road in Sapele, when gunmen swooped on him and shot his security aide.

 

 

Following the incident, the Delta state police commissioner CP Yemi Oyeniyi launched an intensive rescue operation, which led to the recovery of the vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction.

 

 

The council chairman according to a family source who confided in our Correspondent after sending his released photo with an elder, said the release will soon be made public as he was released on Monday night, but did not disclose if any ransom was paid.

 

 

Meanwhile, the Delta police command is yet to release a statement concerning the release, as the spokesperson Edafe Bright promised to get back after a wider consultation.
