FG Declares Legislature Essential for Real Democracy

Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Sabi, has underscored the importance of a functioning legislature as the foundation of true democracy. Speaking at a one-day capacity building workshop for Senate Correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday, Senator Sabi described the legislative arm as the bedrock of any democracy, representing the will of the people.

Also weighing in at the workshop, Senate Spokesperson Senator Yemi Adaramodu emphasized the vital role of the media in democracy. He called on parliamentary journalists to uphold high ethical standards and maintain accurate reporting to strengthen public trust in democratic institutions.

Meanwhile, Senator Ita Enang, former Senior Special Assistant to late President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, stressed the need for training and support for parliamentary journalists to address misinformation and political pressures, reinforcing Nigeria’s democratic framework.

The one-day workshop, themed "Parliamentary Reporting: Issues, Challenges and Responsibilities," aimed to enhance the skills of reporters who cover the Senate, ensuring better and more responsible legislative reporting.
