The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed Friday 23 April for judgment in a suit by the Ondo State Chief Judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Akeredolu against the state governor and five others over a viral video made by one Olupelumi Fagboyegun.

In the said video, Fagboyegun who claimed to be a stepbrother to the state’s chief judge had alleged that Justice Akeredolu instigated his detention for three years, thus prompting a probe by the Attorney General of Ondo State.

Justice Inyang Ekwo had, on Feb. 25, restrained the governor and all the defendants from taking any further steps in relation to the alleged probe of the state’s Chief Judge, in his ruling on an exparte application by the plaintiff.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Jibril Okutepa SAN had faulted the move by the Ondo state Attorney General to refer the case to the State House of Assembly for further probe despite admitting the claims of alleged illegal detention were false.

Galaxy's Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that the plaintiff's counsel further told journalists that his client opted for litigation to seek constitutional interpretation of the scenario that forms the basis of the suit.

Attorney General of the Federation, the National Judicial Council (NJC), Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State Attorney General, the state’s House of Assembly and the Inspector General of Police are 1st to 6th defendants respectively in the suit.
