The United Nations has pledged to support Nigerian government in its quest to end insurgency and achieve even development. UN Secretary general, Ban ki moon made the pledge after a meeting with president Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa Abuja, Monday.


Mr. Ki Moon emphasized the role of Nigeria in African and World politics saying peace in Nigeria means peace in Africa.


He regretted that the Nigerian government has not rescued over two hundred school girls abducted by members of the Boko Haram sect in Chibok, Borno state over 500 days ago calling on the abductors to release the girls without any conditions.


The UN scribe also pledged support of the UN to the developmental course of Nigeria adding that it is the duty of the organisation to collaborate with Nigeria to end extremism.


Speaking on the credibility of the last general election, Mr. Ki Moon congratulated president Buhari on his victory and expressed confidence that Africa’s democracy would be stronger since Nigeria now has a credible electoral system.


President Buhari told the visiting UN envoy that his administration is concerned about, insecurity in the country, plight of internally displaced persons in the country and the rehabilitation of decaying infrastructures which he expects the world body to intervene with any assistance it could render.


The UN scribe, who is visiting Nigeria for the second time, arrived the federal capital territory on Sunday for a two day working visit. He had held several sessions with Nigeria’s governors’ forum, business community and the ministry of foreign affairs.
