Expert reaveals approach to boosting agric production
A Professor of Food Science and Ecology, Sanni Lateef Oladimeji has faulted the present agricultural policy of the present administration which favours the production of rice over cassava.
Oladimeji therefore urged the agriculture ministry to adopt a regional approach to boost agricultural production rather than the one national policy being adopted.
This he said would play on the strengths of the various regions and reduce food shortage. Oladimeji stated that any government that wants to deliver must be ready to take cassava farming serious.
The Dean also disclosed that domestic consumption and usage of cassava can be more profitable and more feasible rather than the rush to export farm produce to China and any other parts of the world.
Our correspondent reports that the Federal ministry of agriculture recently rolled out plans that will lead to the ban on the importation of rice by 2017.
