Ekiti: Patients Urge Resident Doctors To Call off Strike
The need for Resident Doctors to call off their on-going strike in order to save lives in the tertiary hospitals across the country has been encouraged.
Patients at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, Ekiti state made the appeal while speaking on the six-week old industrial action embarked upon by doctors over unpaid dues by the Federal government.
The industrial action embarked upon by Resident Doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospitals in the country over non-payment of adjusted CONMESS no doubt is affecting health care services. At the federal Teaching hospital, Ido Ekiti, in Ekiti State few medical consultants were seen attending to patients while new patients including those in critical conditions were attend to by Doctors who are corps members.
Patients who spoke with newsmen at the hospital appeal to the federal government and the Doctors to resolve issues between them so as to avoid further loss of Lives in hospitals.
Earlier while addressing newsmen, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Majekodunmi Ayodele called on the doctors to return to work as efforts are on going by government to address the unpaid dues. He said contrary to insinuations making the round that the money has been sent, the federal govt is yet to release the fund that has been approved.
But the chairman of Senior Staff Association of the Federal Teaching hospital, Ido Ekiti, Ager Solomon said he believes that the only solution to the lingering strike is for govt to dialogue with the doctors.
The CMD while expressing dissatisfaction in the recurring strike by Resident Doctors, said the health sector should not abandon our duty. He stressed the need for a Law to be put in place to address the continuous strike by doctors.
The Resident Doctors have however been urged to shelf the 6-week old strike in order to save lives.
