Reps Member, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, Dies at 66

The House of Representatives, at the weekend, announced the death of a member, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Kano State.

Hassan died on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Abuja at the age of 66, after a brief illness.

House Spokesman, Akintunde Rotimi, in a statement emphasized that the late lawmaker’s death is a major loss to the National Assembly, his constituents, and the country, noting that his contributions to legislative development and constitutional processes remain significant.

Hassan, elected in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, was Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, and member of several other committees, where he played key roles in legislative oversight and national policy discussions.

He later defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and maintained a close political alliance with his leader, Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso.

Before joining partisan politics, he built a long career within the National Assembly bureaucracy, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary, bringing decades of administrative experience and institutional knowledge into parliamentary work.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Kano State, and members of the National Assembly, as burial arrangements were scheduled for Saturday, in line with Islamic rites.
