Troops Rescue Kidnapped Victims In Zamfara
Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued three women held captive for nearly three months in bandits camp. The operation took place during a routine patrol in Bagega, Anka LGA of Zamfara State. Under sustained military pressure, the terrorists abandoned the victims. The women were identified as 28-year-old Zainab Muhammadu from Gara Zaima Village, Bukkuyum LGA, and 20-year-old Hafsat Ibrahim plus 17-year-old Halira Usman from Mashiga/Taka Lafiya Village in Zuru LGA, Kebbi State. They were quickly evacuated for medical checks and care.
The Troops from 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence, set up an ambush at Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi LGA, Sokoto State, targeting terrorists reportedly moving to launch attacks. When the terrorists spotted the troops, they came under heavy fire and scattered, abandoning their mission.
The separate operations yielded significant recoveries. Troops seized one PKT high-calibre machine gun, a cache of ammunition, two motorcycles, and chains suspected to have been used to restrain captives. Other military accoutrements and operational items were also recovered, further weakening the terrorists’ capacity to operate.
According to the Joint Task Force, the successes showed how effective intelligence-led operations and a sustained offensive posture can be.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the Joint Task Force remains committed to protecting lives and property. Troops will keep up relentless pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements until lasting peace and normalcy return to the region, he said.
