Tribunal Declares Aregbesola Winner Of Osun Guber Election
The Osun State Election Tribunal headed by Justice Elizabeth Ipejime, Friday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, declared Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the winner of the August 9, 2014 governorship election in the state.
Governor Aregbesola had defeated his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP rival, Senator Iyiola Omisore in the keenly contested election scoring 392, 284 votes to the 292, 742 ballots that Omisore got.
However, the results were contested by Omisore and his party who both opted to challenge same at the tribunal.
Justice Elizabeth Ipejime, Chairman of the tribunal, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was right in declaring Aregbesola as the winner having scored the highest number of valid votes.
At the time the judgment was delivered, the duo of Aregbesola and Omisore were absent in court although their party agents represented them.
