Senate refuses to screen 27 INEC RECs
Senate on Tuesday March 28, suspended confirmation of 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This resolution was reached after Senator representing Delta North; Peter Nwaoboshi moved a motion that the exercise be suspended based on the refusal of the executive to accept the senate’s rejection of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other Senate decisions.
Senator Nwaoboshi spoke on need for Nigerian's democracy and institution to be protected by all the arms of government.
Contributing to the debate, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said that the matter should be stepped down so their sentiments could “be passed on to the executive.”
The President of Senate Bukola Saraki after a voice vote shifted the screening, which was supposed to begin yesterday.
