Police Reads Roit Act To Politicians in Ogun

With 17 days to the conduct of the general elections in Ogun state, the state police command has warned politicians in the state to refrain from inciting and provocative statement that could spark off crisis in the state.

The commissioner of police in the state, Ikemefunna Okoye and other senior officers of the state police command, while addressing leaders of political parties in the state ahead of the next month poll said the command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness before, during and after the poll in the state.

‎In less than three weeks, Nigerians will again take another step forward in the history of the country with the conduct of the  general elections to elect leaders that will steer the ship of the country for another four years.

‎In order to have peaceful conduct of the poll, police as officers maintaining law and order organised a sensitisation workshop for leaders of political parties in the state to brief them of what is expected of them before, during and after the poll.

A cross section of senior officers, including the Commissioner of police in the state, Ikemefunna Okoye, who address the gathering read riot act to politicians and political parties in the state ahead of the polls, threatening to deal with anyone that violate the provision of the electoral act in the state.


Also, politicians were informed on the need to carry the authorities of the command in their campaign and were equally cautioned to move in procession and avoid the use of inflammatory statements during their political campaigns.

Speaking during the programme, a deputy commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Sina Oluborire urged political parties to give the command a minimum of 72hours before their campaign day, taskthem to avoid any form of violence before during and after the elections.

The representative of the Commissioner of Police Ogun state command however highlighted other reasons why they embarked on the awareness and
sensitization programme and what they want to achieve. Also, some representatives of the political parties in the state speaks on the gathering.

The Commissioner of police however sounded a note of warning to violators of the electoral guidelines that the command will not hesitate to sanction them appropriately.

With the assurance of cooperation by political parties and the will of the police to ensure orderliness, peace and security during the election, Nigeria may be on its mission of setting a new record in its electoral history.
