Police Arrest Armed Robbery Gang Leader in Enugu
The gang, in an exchange of fireworks, arrested the leader of an armed robbery gang on the watchlist of the Command in Enugu State. The gang lost out in the gun battle with the police, during which the gang leader, Kenneth Ifesinachi, sustained gunshot injuries and was arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Command, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement, indicated that Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, attached to the Amechi-Idodo Division, in collaboration with members of the Neighborhood Watch, foiled an armed robbery operation and dislodged the criminal gang that barricaded the Enugu/Abakiliki road to rob commuters.
Other members of the gang escaped, while confessional statements of the arrested gang leader led to the arrest of one other accomplice, identified as Izuchukwu Nwanga, who kept the gang's proceeds of crime.
The gang leader, later, died in the hospital. Items recovered from him include one locally fabricated pistol, a knife , as well as substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The Enugu State Police Commissioner, CP Mamman Giwa, commended the courage, professionalism and collaboration demonstrated by the police and members of the Neighborhood Watch in the successful operation.
