The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Honorable Moses Clopas, the winner of the Bayelsa State Central Senatorial district bye-election held on Saturday across Kolokuma-Opokuma, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa Local Government Areas respectively.

Honourable Moses Cleopas of the PDP defeated his closest rival, Abel Ebifemowei of the APC with a total of 101,072 votes.

The returning officer for Bayelsa Central Senatorial bye-election Professor Emmanuel Akpan, declared the results at the Professor Mahmood Yakubu Media Centre, INEC Office, Yenagoa.

However, the senatorial party agents for the All Progressives Congress, APC rejected the results as the PDP agent commended INEC.

Our correspondent reports that the number of registered voters is 417,408, and the number of accredited voters 142,590.

The total number of valid votes cast is 139,910.
