Mary Habila's Family Petitions IGP, Demands Release of Corpse For Burial

Tanko Habila, father of the late Mary Habila, the nurse who died at the residence of the Minister of Works, on Friday, petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, demanding the release of her remains for burial.

Habila, who was accompanied by his wife, other family members and their lawyers, addressed the press shortly after submitting the petition at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Friday.

He expressed sadness that almost two weeks after his daughter’s demise, the Ebonyi State Police Command had refused to release her body for burial, noting that the family was not interested in an autopsy.

The father of the deceased said the decision was voluntary, made without pressure or inducement from anyone, and asked that her body be released without further delay.

Also, the family Legal Adviser, Adamu Yusuf, said the family had already petitioned the Inspector General of Police following the refusal of the police in Ebonyi State to release the corpse of the deceased for burial.
