Police Dislodge Kidnappers, Recover 2 AK-47 Rifles in Enugu
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, attached to the Igbo-Eze North Division, raided hideouts across identified black spots in a forest along boundary towns in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area and dislodged several enclaves of kidnappers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Enugu State Command, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement, indicated that the operation was intelligence-driven under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, who ordered massive combing of hotspots across the state.
The operation, according to the PPRO, led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, a motorcycle and other exhibits, after an intense gun duel with the criminals.
The PPRO said the suspected kidnappers opened fire on sighting the police team, who responded to the gunfire with fury, leading to the criminals fleeing into the bush, and leaving behind two AK 47 Rifles, four Magazines with 64 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one red TVS Motorcycle, among other incriminating items.
The Enugu Police Commissioner, CP Mamman Giwa, has ordered sustained operational and investigative efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, reiterating the Command's unwavering commitment to cracking down violent criminals and dismantling their networks in Enugu.
