Tinubu Inherited 2,064 Uncompleted Road Projects, Needs N7trn – Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, at a press briefing in Abuja, disclosed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited 2,064 uncompleted roads on assumption of office.

The Minister said that the government would need over N7 trillion to ensure the completion of all ongoing road projects under the NNPCL tax credit scheme.

The minister said that the inherited 2,064 projects are valued at approximately ₦13 trillion, beside total current contract exposure rising to ₦16.9 trillion.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu has directed that another means of funding should be provided for the projects to ensure they are completed.

Umahi said that the Ministry of Works has assumed responsibility, prioritising and restructuring the portfolio.

The minister raised concerns over the increasing vandalization of Nigeria’s road and bridge infrastructure, warning that the destructive acts pose grave risks to public safety and national development.

He decried the removal of critical components from bridges and highways across the country, describing the trend as a direct attack on national assets.
