Strike FMC ARD to Embark On Industrial Action over Non Implementation of MOU
The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, has threatened to embark on a Total, Indefinite and Comprehensive Strike tagged “No Implementation, No Going Back” starting from 12:00am on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The doctors said the action became necessary following the Federal Government’s failure to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) freely entered into between the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoH&SW), and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment (FMoL&E).
The MoU arose from 19 key demands addressing critical welfare, remuneration, and professional practice issues affecting resident doctors nationwide. The President of ARD, FMC Abeokuta, Dr. Olanipekun Quadri A., made this known on Wednesday during a press conference held at the hospital’s secretariat within the FMC Abeokuta premises.
According to him, the unresolved issues include persistent delays in the payment of House Officers’ salaries, non-payment of salary arrears ranging from one to six months, and the failure of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to issue a formal pay advisory to House Officers as earlier promised.
