Shettima Harps On The Need For Environmental Protection

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has launched the Nigeria Police Green Initiative (NPGI) in Abuja, highlighting the intricate link between national security and environmental challenges. He emphasized the global threat of climate change, citing its consequences on weather conditions, water bodies, and agricultural yields.

GALAXY TV reports that Shettima praised the Nigeria Police Force for taking proactive measures to address climate change, aligning with international goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Vice President however reiterated the government's commitment to innovation and partnerships in driving Nigeria's transition to a green economy, ensuring a resilient, secure, and sustainable future.

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, revealed that the Nigeria Police Force has developed a comprehensive framework for implementing the Nigeria Police Green Initiative (NPGI).

The initiative aims to achieve energy transition in the medium term by adopting renewable energy as the priority and default energy source.

The Director General of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Khalil Halilu pledged continued support for the initiative.

The Key components of the NPGI includes Retrofitting police stations, posts, colleges, and barracks with renewable energy applications, Transitioning police facilities to renewable energy sources, Promoting environmental awareness and education ,Facilitating local and international investments in green infrastructure and Engaging communities and building local capacity in green technology.
