Vice President Kashim Shettima has began a two-week leave, after obtaining due approval from President Bola Tinubu.

The leave, which took effect on Thursday, August 6, 2026 is expected to last for two weeks.

It marks the first time the Vice President will be embarking on leave since being sworn into office in 2023.

A statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media and Communications - Office of The Vice President - indicated that during the period, the Vice President will devote time to study, reflection and intellectual renewal, as part of efforts to strengthen his capacity for continued service to the nation.

The presidency clarified that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the Vice President has remained actively engaged in the coordination and supervision of several strategic government initiatives, particularly in economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
