Senate Passes Tinubu’s ₦58.47trn 2026 Budget for Second Reading

In a key step toward approving next year's national spending, the Nigerian Senate has passed President Bola Tinubu’s ₦58.47 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill for second reading.

The passage followed a lead debate by Opeyemi Bamidele the Senate Leader, who sponsored the bill titled “A Bill for an Act to Authorize the Issue from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation the total sum of ₦58,472,628,944,759 for the services of the Federation for the year ending 31st December, 2026.

Bamidele described the budget as one of consolidation, building on the administration's reforms to stabilize the economy and bolster public finances. During contributions, fellow Senators called on the Appropriations Committee to conduct rigorous scrutiny. The Senate has now referred the bill to the Appropriations Committee for detailed review.
