Buhari requests approval for Loan

Senate today at plenary acknowledged and read 5 letters from Mr President on Confirmation of appointment of non-executive directors for CBN, Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and approval for a loan of over 6.92 Billion Dollars from China Exim Bank.


Our Abuja correspondents, Onuora Aninwobodo reported that President of the Senate Bukola Saraki read these letters after executive session of Senate of the whole.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki while reading the letters said that the President has Requested for Senate approval 2016-2018 external borrowing rolling plan of over 6.926 Billion Dollars.

He said that the letter indicated that China Exim Bank has approved Federal Government request for a loan to execute Lagos-Kano railway modernization project Lagos-Ibadan segment for a sum of $1. 231 billion, among other projects.

The letter from Mr President to the Senate equally requested Senate approval for confirmation of non-executive directors of Board of Central Bank of Nigeria and approval for appointment of nomination of Professor James Momoh as chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Mr President requested the usual expeditious attention of the distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 5 letters he sent to them.
